Holiday lets in the Jordaan

There is no better way of getting to know the beautiful city of Amsterdam, the fabled Venice of the North, than by renting a holiday apartment in the Jordaan district. It's located just outside the city centre but is within easy reach of the main highlights of the city and is not bustling with tourists. The Jordaan district is the perfect area for experiencing Amsterdam as a local. One of the best-known places of interest in this neighbourhood is the Anne Frank Museum which is located in the actual house where Anne and her family were forced to hide from the Nazis during World War Two.

Getting to know the Jordaan

The Jordaan was once a working-class district but is now one of the trendiest in Amsterdam and its cobblestone streets are filled with art galleries, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. It's the ideal location to stay if you are on holiday as you can easily pop out for a meal without needing to plan ahead. The house prices are amongst the most expensive in Amsterdam and the atmosphere is peaceful - yet Amsterdam's Dam Square, a tourist magnet, is only ten minutes' walk away. The Jordaan is a particularly child-friendly area. Hidden between the attractive facades of the old houses are discreet inner courtyards, many of which house charmingly quirky playgrounds.

Holiday rental apartments in Amsterdam's Jordaan district

Whether you are a student backpacker or on a family holiday, there are plenty of things to see and do in this lovely district of Amsterdam. You could rent an electric boat or pedal boat on one of the canals - just make sure you know how to steer it as you will have to share space with many other 'proper' boat users. You could hire a bike and experience Amsterdam as the locals do by cycling around the streets and bridges. The Amsterdam Museum is well worth a visit, as is the Westekerk, a working church with a tower offering magnificent views to those who climb it. Of course, you could spend the day shopping at many boutiques, and pause for a moment at one of the pavement cafes and enjoy some delicious coffee. After a busy day, you can return to your well-equipped holiday rental and relax in the peace and quiet of your own home from home.
