A city of changing colors

Start walking along the streets of one of those really beautiful old towns. Spend an hour to discover every single detail at Marienplatz before having a bite at Viktualienmarkt. Watch the paths cross in a never-ending English Garden before heading to the old and new city hall.

In the afternoon, a visit to a biergarten to start some heavy weight-lifting. Munich’s not a single day experience. People have energy, business is all around and sport clubs lead the way. What’s clear is that every season has something to offer:

Munich, when to go?

Autumn München: Oktoberfest is a preferred season for locals and visitors. If you are not into beer, keep looking...

Winter München: winter Christmas markets in Marienplatz, cold and maybe even some snow. Munich’s Old Townbecomes magical and special.

Spring München: a more quiet alternative to Oktoberfest happens also in spring. Frühlingfest, that’s the name.

Summer München: when many natives go, Munich enjoys at parks and great green areas.

Business, arts and lots of beer

Munich, Bavaria. A city broken by the war but proudly brought back to life. Money, business and monumental charm mix in the center, while art and parks fill the scene. That said, you can’t imagine Munich without a special kind of gardens where beer is the key.

A clean and well organized city where beer is sacred: the German Beer Purity Law tells you how it should be dealt with. A visit to one of the city’s biergartens will show you the drinking law as well (forget about small glasses or bottles…).

Sausages, wheat beer, pretzels… food’s not the only thing, but is for sure one of the city’s main highlights when in Bavarian lands.

Time to explore: get away from Munich!

A dream castle, impressive palaces and even a different kind of nest… There’s more to Munich than the city itself. Bavaria hides treasures you’ll be dealing with if you happen to leave town.

Away from Munich

The Eagle’s Nest: once Hitler’s retreat, the place hosts now a restaurant in between the mountains.

Neuschwanstein: this castle is probably what we think of when we think of castles. Look out for knights and princesses.

Hohensalzburg Castle: less than an hour away from Munich, Salzburg and its castle are a great reason to cross the Austrian border.

Linderhof palace: a mirror’s room and some other surprises worth the visit.

Rothenburg ob de Tauner: they call it the most German town in Germany. What’s clear is that you’ll find yourself wandering around a medieval town where only knights and dragons are missing.

A big city around an old town

You will forget about where you are once you walk the streets of the old town. If you want to be close to the city’s main highlights, get ready to book your place in the center (might not be so cheap). In any case, the city has an efficient public transportation system: handy if you happen to sleep far away.

Ludwigsvorstadt, near the main station is also a great choice to find your basecamp. Close enough to Oktoberfest venues, you’ll be -almost- in the middle of it all.

If you are into party, Schwabing, Naxvorstadt, Gärtnerplatzviertel and Glockenbachviertel are to be considered. Family trip? Haidhausen y Lehel are calm and comfortable, although a bit further away.
